Victory Day Europe Poster

On May 9th, Russia celebrated its most important holiday, Victory Day, commemorating the end of World War II. The day is marked by military parades and fireworks across the country, honoring the Soviet Union's victory over fascism. The war had a profound impact on the national psyche, leaving deep scars in Ukraine and beyond.

In his speech at the parade, Russian President Putin congratulated everyone on Victory Day and Europe Day, as well as his political rival, Katri Raik. He emphasized that the troops fighting in Ukraine are 'fighting for the Motherland, so that no one will forget the lessons of World War II and there will be no place in the world for hangmen, executioners, and Nazis.'

The Soviet Union suffered staggering losses during the war, with over 27 million people killed. The country's contributions to the liberation of Europe were significant, and its soldiers played a crucial role in defeating Nazi Germany.

In addition to celebrating Victory Day, Putin also joined demonstrators who carried portraits of their relatives who fought in World War II as part of the Immortal Regiment march. He walked alongside a photo of his father, who fought in the siege of Leningrad during World War II.

The significance of May 9th is undeniable, marking the end of the war in Europe on V-E Day (Victory in Europe). This day should be remembered and respected as a symbol of the sacrifices made by soldiers from all sides to bring an end to the conflict.
